Registering for an account

Registering for an account is simple and only requires an email address.

Click the "Register" button on the smArt Appraisal page to bring up the registration form.  Enter your email address and desired password and click "Submit"–that's it! You are now ready to upload your items for appraisal.

Note: You will receive a welcome email, but don't need to click anything in it to confirm or use your account.

Changing your account information or password

Changing the name, email, or password associated with your account is simple: click the"Account Settings" button towards the top right of the smArt Appraisal portal page, make the desired edits, and click submit.

Adding a payment method

Our online services accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express credit and debit cards.

To add a card, log in to your account and click the "Manage Payment Method" button.

Enter your card details and click "Submit Default Payment"–that's it! When you submit an item for appraisal this information will be automatically used for payment.

  • Please note that at this time only one card may be stored per account. If you want to use a new card, simply return to the Manage Payment Method page and enter in new details.

  • If you submit an item for appraisal before adding payment information you will be prompted to add a card at that time.

 

Submitting items for appraisal

Click the "Submit an Item for a smArt Appraisal" button to access the item upload form. While not every field is mandatory, we encourage you to share any known details about the item.

Item description: Tell us what you've got - what is it? who created it? maker? model number? color? shape/form?

Measurements: Take overall measurements of the object so our specialists have a sense of its scale. 

History of ownership: Who held onto this object prior to your ownership? Was it acquired by purchase? By inheritance? By chance? We want to know the story, because the history of the object's ownership - or provenance - can carry weight in the valuation of the item.   

Condition notes: Condition is an important factor in the value of an object, so please describe any wear, tear, scratches, fading, cracking, breakage, damage, repairs.  

Distinguishing features: Describe any unique features that distinguish this object from other similar items, and anything else you think we should consider.

 

Taking and attaching pictures 

When using a desktop or laptop computer:

1. Take the pictures using your camera of choice. 

2. Upload them to your hard drive.

3. On the appraisal submission form, use the "Click HERE to Select File" button to attach image files.

When using a tablet or mobile phone:

You may upload photos by using the desktop method described above, or you may use your device's built in camera to take pictures right from the smArt Appraisal form:

1. From the appraisal upload page, press the "Click HERE to Select File" button.

2. Press "Take Photo or Video" to access your device's camera

3. When you've taken a picture you're happy with, select "Use Photo" in the bottom right.

Please note:

  • Images must currently be selected and uploaded one at a time.

  • After taking or attaching an image you will see an "image loading" message while the picture loads. It is important that you wait until this message clears and the images are visible on the screen before submitting the appraisal form.
