Gemology 101

  • Taft Museum of Art 316 Pike Street Cincinnati, OH 45202

Are you gem-curious?  Ever wonder why certain colored diamonds fetch a king's ransom at auction and other are dirt cheap?  You're not the only one!

Gemstones are nuanced and their prices reflect subtle differences that cannot be seen by the untrained eyes - which means buyers must be knowledgeable and savvy.  If you've ever wondered what to look for when buying jewelry, you'll be in perfect company at this event at the Taft Museum.

Join Chief Diamond Buyer David Pfaehler from James Free Jewelers and get the scoop on how stones are formed, selected, cut, and mounted. Pfaehler is a former buyer and gemologist for Harry Winston, and will share his expertise on buying and designing exquisite pieces of jewelry.

It's FREE but reservations are required: Click here or call  (513) 684-4516.

This program takes place prior to the opening of the Bijoux Parisiens exhibition; galleries will not be open. The Museum gates will open at 5:30 p.m.
